Many people have asked me why I always wear the necklace that I wear. Most of the times I tell them it was a gift from one of my best friends, but some are not satisfied with that. Then I tell them that my friend vanished and this is the only thing I have left to remember her. And when I tell them that, I'm never lying. That's my policy: when you want to hide something, never lie! Then you have to remember that lie and from one lie comes another. No, if you want to keep something to yourself, never lie! Just don't tell things!

I know I'm not the greatest example, telling you how to hide some things the best. However, some things are too personal and too painful to tell others. Just like the story of my best friend.

I remember well my last year at high school. Kids used to pick on me, because I had a smart sister. They called me stupid, just because I wasn't as smart as my sister. Most of the time I let them know that I wasn't stupid by punching them, so I was also feared. Detention-room was one of the places I was most of the free time we had.

However, when she showed up, things started to change. I was in English class, being bored to death when the door suddenly opened. I knew this man who came in, it was the principal. Most of the times he came in, it was to take me to his room and talk about the things I had done. However, this time I hadn't done a thing! (At least, not yet ^_^)

I was more surprised when a shy girl followed him. A new student? I still remember smiling inside, I just had to warn her for this school! It was not too late for her!

She looked slowly through the class and her eyes met mine. Even though she was so far away, I saw her bright green eyes, which matched her aqua-coloured hair. There was something about her that looked familiar, but I couldn't recall.

The principal introduced her. Her name was Shelly, Shelly Stellamare and she was an exchange student. She would stay for only one week to learn about how people taught in our country, because she came from across the sea.

The principal looked through the class. Shelly had to sit somewhere and he gasped when he saw the only empty seat was next to me. Doubting, he guided Shelly to my place and he whispered: 'Please behave yourself for once' at me. Sure, for her I would ease down. I wanted to know what so familiar was about her!

After school, I quickly looked for Shelly. It was hard to find her and when I suddenly saw her, she blended with the children again and she was gone! I've must have been looking for her at least an hour before I decided to leave school.

Every time I had to think, I walked along the beach. It was my favourite place to be, as you all know. I sat down on the sandy hill and looked at the sea. I sighed deeply and tried to think. If I would tell this to Star, she would laugh at me. Mom and dad would worry themselves even more about me. I heard them talking one night, deciding if I should, or should not get counselling. For being the parents of one of the most smartest girls on the earth, they were pretty stupid. Each time I was confronted with my twin, each time they saw the good sides of Star, while people forgot mine. It's not easy to live in the shade of your twin. Maybe I will step out of it one day.

When I looked up again, I looked at the water and suddenly saw her! It was her, Shelly! This time, I wasn't going to lose her! I quickly ran down the hill towards the sea. I must have screamed her name, because she looked back.

I breathed heavily when I reached her. There she was, in front of me, and I had so much to ask! However, at that moment, I was suddenly completely blank!

"Hey Kitt." I heard her say. "What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be at home and study for tomorrows biology test?"

Why should she care about that? She didn't have to study for that. I shook my head, telling her that there was one thing in life I didn't had to study for: Marine Biology. I didn't want to brag, but I knew everything about the sea! Even the things that weren't discovered yet.

"You're kidding?" She asked. "I also know a lot about the sea. It's my favourite place to be!"

What? This was also her favourite place? This was too much coincidence.

We talked about the sea for hours, until the sun started to set.

When I came home, my parents yelled at me that they were worried. I apologised, telling them I had been talking with a friend. That surprised them so much, they forgot to punish me. That night, we ate cauliflower, one of my favourite vegetables. Mom always makes that when she has to tell me something that I won't like.

Mom and dad told me they were going to get some counselling for me. For crying out loud, I was 15 years old and not psycho! They said that they wanted me to have friends, just like Starleen.

I laughed sarcastically. "I don't want friends just like Star, who compares others to their sibling and do not threat them as individuals!" I yelled. "I do have a friend now!" And ran upstairs to my room. If you ever wondered, they tried to send me to a councillor, but he already saw the problem and send me back home. Come to think of it, that was one awesome dude! I only had one session and we only chatted about my hobbies. He tried to tell everything to my parents, but they misunderstood. They thought I needed more guidance. Result: I was send to Medical School.

However, that was when I was just 17 years old, so let's go back to age 15. Shelly and I spend most of our time together, near the ocean. One of the last days, she gave me a necklace. It was a silver sun, with within a 5 pointed star. She told me it was called the SunStar. I thought it was one awesome necklace.

But then she surprised me more. She told me that the necklace had magical powers. She told me to close my eyes and to think about the sea. I did what she asked, thinking the whole story was crap. However, when I opened my eyes again, there was suddenly a trident in my hand! I was astounded.

Shelly told me that was her real gift to me. "Whenever you use this trident, your attacks will become even more powerful."

I gasped. How did she knew about my powers? Shelly smiled and stepped back on her feet. "Good luck Kitty." She said and then walked away.

I quickly ran after her, but when I reached the top of the sandy hills, she was already gone. She simply vanished!

The next day, Shelly didn't come to school. I asked my teacher where Shelly was, but she didn't recall anyone named that. She looked at me like I was gone completely psycho! I asked around more at school, but no-one seemed to remember the exchange student with aqua-coloured hair and green eyes. However, the necklace was still there so it wasn't a dream.

I decided Shelly must have been some sort of good witch, who helped me out. Whenever people asked me who that Shelly was, I told them it was a book I had in my bag which vanished. After that day, I was a lot calmer, knowing I knew something they didn't knew, and also had something they didn't have. If anyone picked on me again, I just stuck out my tongue or walked away, instead of punching my way through school. From that day, I only had detention once a month! I also made more friends, who seemed to understand me because they were also outcasts.

For a long while, I though the necklace and the trident were one. As long as I would have the necklace I could call upon my trident. I practised a long time at the beach and I also made up a new attack: Trident Power Wave. I got completely used to this blue shiny thing and I even enjoyed using it and seeing how more powerful my powers became.

One day I was at the beach again and I decided to take a nap. I let my trident vanish again and lay down in the sand. Suddenly, someone stood in my shade and something dripped on me. When I looked up, I saw a monster! I screamed and jumped back, and then I realised that that thing had dripped his mud on me! I was about to throw up, because of the bad smell when it started to attack me.

First I used my Ocean Explosion, thinking that water could wash mud away. However, he was much stronger and I called upon my trident. The battle was then quickly won. With my Wave Crasher, I made sure he melted away and stayed away. I smiled, when I suddenly saw something shining on the ground. It was my necklace!

I must have lost it when jumping away from the creature, and never realised it! I now knew that I didn't need the SunStar to call upon my trident. I also wondered where that creature had come from. I looked around, but I only saw something that looked like a shadow on the cliffs which vanished. Must have been a mirage....

After that day, I met more monsters, but I managed to defeat them all. I still wonder where they are from and why they only attack me. Maybe I'll find out in the future.

The necklace Shelly gave me is still with me, as a memory of the girl who managed to change me and gave me and awesome present. I hope to see her one day again and thank her, because she was the best friend I ever had... even though I only knew her for a couple of days.

Kiss,

Kitt

The end.
