There had been a storm. It was such a huge storm, many boats that were on sea had sunk. She knew the place where most boats had sunk and she swam carefully at it. There could be sharks out here.

"I'm gonna tell mom!" A young mermaid cried behind her.

Kitt sighed. "Put a sock in it Star." And swam further.

"A sock?" Starleen asked. "What's a sock?"

Kitt swam to a huge ship. It sunk only a few days ago. There would be very pretty things in there, she just knew it! She turned to her whiney twin-sister. "You better stay here." She ordered.

"Why did I bother to come along anyway?"

"That's what I'm asking myself too." Kitt sighed and swam through the broken deck.

Star sat down on the deck. "What's so interesting about this place anyway."

Kitt took the time to pop her head out of the deck again. "Cuz it's fun and new!" She smiled. "Humans have very weird things."

Kitt swam further through the boat. In the mean while, Star looked around. Suddenly, she heard something behind her. "K-K-itty?" She trembled. "Is that you?" There was no reply. "I wanna go home..." Starleen whispered. Suddenly she heard that noise again! "Kitty!" Star yelled and dove through the deck, following her sister.

Kitt looked back. "What's the matter Star? Saw a scary lobster?" She asked sarcastically.

"A shark! A huge shark!" Star screamed. "And it is following me! We have to get out of here!"

Kitt looked into the dark corridor. "I wanna meet that shark..." She smiled.

Star hid behind Kitt, when suddenly the 'huge' shark appeared. Kitt laughed. "That's your huge shark?" She laughed. "It's only a little guppy!"

"It must have swam away." Star answered ashamed.

"Come on." Kitt giggled. "I'm already finished, I only have see that room and then we can go, miss scaredy."

Star followed Kitt close. Kitt slowly opened the door. Suddenly, the room collapsed! Star pulled Kitt back, until the danger was over. "Okay, let's go!" Kitt wanted to swim in.

"Wait!" Star yelled. "The room just collapsed! It's not safe."

"If you don't mess things up, it will be." She swam in, carefully, seeing what must have been the captain's room. Star followed hesitating.

"Oo! Look at that shining mirror!" She squealed and swam at it.

Kitt sighed, but swam further. She saw a beautiful knife, not rusted yet. It would be destroyed soon. "So that's how they actually look...." Kitt took her notebook and quickly made some notes. Then she saw another knife, only this one was very thin and made out of gold. The sides were not sharp either and only the point was useful if you wanted to hurt someone (note: it is a letter-opener, but what does Kitt know about these things ^_^?). She decided to take it home for further study. Kitt took some more interesting things and made notes out of other things.

"Kitt? What is this?" Star asked, pointing at something.

Kitt swam at her sister. "Oh, I've seen these things when I was at the surface. They are from birds! Feathers. You should go out more often."

"They feel weird."

"Birds are weird. They swim too, but they swim through air and on an unusual way." She took the hat. "Humans wear this as a hat." Kitt put it on.

"You look stupid!" Star giggled.

"Humans are stupid." She pointed at 2 boots. "They walk on 2 tails and were these things to protect them."

"They are silly!" Star giggled. "Hey, look at that! Is that a human? He looks stupid."

Kitt was already ready to laugh, when she saw the picture of a young man. She gazed at it, not able to say anything. "He's....amazing...."

"Yeah, amazingly stupid!" Star laughed. "Just look at those things he's wearing!"

Kitt swam closer, and wanted to touch the picture, when suddenly, the room started to collapse more! Star and Kitt quickly swam out of the sunken boat and looked outside to see it being destroyed.

"That was close." Star sighed. "Let's go home now, okay?"

Kitt nodded and followed her sister, only thinking about the boy on the picture.

"Mommy! We're home!" Star squealed happily.

"Hi honey, where have you 2 been?" Her mother asked.

Star gasped. "We've been at the caves, just playing around."

"How nice." Her mother smiled. "Did you have fun Kitty?"

"It was... amazing...." Kitt sighed and swam to her room.

Star looked at her. "What's her problem? She is so... so quiet!"

Her mother only smiled, she had seen this before.

The next day, Kitt went back to the boat-graveyard. She went early, and had left Star home. She swam into the first boat, went to the captain's room, but there was nothing at the wall. So was the next boat. All the boats had an empty wall. Kitt sighed and went home again. When she went to her room, she saw Star.

"Hi Kitty, where have you been?" Starleen asked.

"Oh... just out...." Kitty replied sighing.

The whole week, Kitt spend her days searching sunken boats to look for something. Each day, she came home empty-handed. She got more depressed each day.

One night, Kitt couldn't sleep. She lay in her bed, just crawling around. Then she heard something in the room beneath her! She swam out of her bed and went to the hallway. It were her parents. She decided to listen.

"I'm worrying about Kitty, dearest. She is so silent." Her mother said. "She gets up early, comes home late and isn't hungry any more. There is something wrong with her."

Her father laid a hand on her. "I've noticed it. I'm worried too."

"What can we do?" Her mother started to cry.

"Aemilia Eyeris...." He only used her full name when he was about to say something he knew his wife wouldn't like. "I'll take Kitty to the doctor tomorrow, in the hope he'll find something."

Her mother jumped up. "She is not insane!" She yelled.

"She needs help!" Her father tried to calm her down. "I don't like it either, but she is not physically sick." Her mother sat down and her father continued. "I want to help her."

"I know... I do too."

Kitt was angry! How could they do this to her? Only because she ate a little bit less? She swam to her room and took a few things. She also took the golden knife she found earlier. Then she swam out of her window into the night.

Kitt had swum for almost an hour, when she decided to take a break. She was hungry, why hadn't she taken some food along? Now that was really stupid!

"Hey, little guppy, what are you doing here?" She heard and looked back.

"Who are you?" Kitt asked annoyed. How dare he call her little guppy?

The boy with green hair smiled and sat down next to her. "I'm Derak, king of the sea!" He came closer. "And who are you my sweet?"

"First, you are not the king of the sea." Kitt started. "Second, my name is Kitt and I'm not your sweet!"

"Then what are you doing here?" He asked. "It's no place for such a small girl here anyway."

Kitt punched him in the face. "I'm not a small girl, okay you idiot?"

"Okay, okay!" Derak answered quickly. "What are you doing here?"

Kitt sighed. "Actually, I don't have a clue. My parents think I'm insane."

"You must be if you are out on your own here." Derak answered, but apologised quickly when he saw Kitt glazing.

Suddenly, both heard something. They looked up and saw something huge!

"Hey, it's a boat from the humans!" He smiled.

"Humans?" Kitt asked. She had never seen a boat float that was so huge!

Derak nodded. "I know everything about humans. This is the ship of the Prince. Wanna take a look?"

"Why not?" Kitt asked exited. She had never seen real humans!

Both swam to the surface and climbed on the back of the ship. Derak decided to play tour-guide. "On your left, you can see the...."

"Captain's room." Kitt quickly added. She looked around, but nothing important on the wall. "Where are the humans?"

Derak, insulted that Kitt knew something about ships, mumbled. "They are on the deck. They are celebrating something."

Kitt looked around the corner, but couldn't see anything. "I wanna get closer."

"You better not." Derak warned. "If they catch you... I don't know what will happen, but it is probably not good."

Kitt didn't listen and grabbed a long rope that fluttered along the side. She swung to the side and bashed against the wall.

Derak didn't dare to look, but when he saw Kitt was okay, he was happy. 'She truly is insane!' He thought.

Kitt managed to look and saw the party. "They are ugly." She whispered. "Star was right, humans are stupid. Just look at those weird movements. Why are they doing this?"

Suddenly, an aged man clapped. "Silence please, no more dancing for the moment." God, that man was annoying, Kitt already knew that. Reminded her of her old teacher. "Today, we are celebrating that there has been peace for 100 years with the neighbour kingdom. And we knew what will happen soon. Our beloved prince will marry the neighbouring princes to insure that peace will stay!"

All the men cheered. They took some beer and drank some. "Long live the prince!" One cheered and the others added their voices.

Then they bowed, except for one young man. Kitt hadn't him seen before, but was struck by lightning! Oh my god, the boy from the painting! He was alive!

"My prince." The old man started against the young man. "Let me be the first to congratulate you."

"With what?" He asked. "My doom?"

"But Prince Zach!" The man replied.

"Have you ever heard that voice from that girl? Hideous!" He exclaimed. "Have you seen her looks? Even worse!"

"But she is the most beautiful creature on the world!" The old man answered.

Prince Zach looked back. "Not to me!" He walked inside the captain's hut again.

Derak crawled next to Kitt, sighing exhausted. "Okay, time to go now miss dare-devil." He sighed. "Look at the clouds, a storm is coming." The wind started to blow harder already.

"One more minute." Kitt demanded, hoping that Prince Zach would come out again.

The wind began to blow even harder. "We must go!"

"No, not yet!"

Suddenly, Kitt slipped away and both fell back in the ocean. "Did you hear anything?" One of the men asked. When he looked up to see what was the noise, he suddenly saw something else. "Look out!" He yelled, pointing at a huge cliff. "A reef!"

But it was too late and the boat already started to crack. The boat began to sink and everybody managed to get in the life-boats.

Kitt and Derak had been looking from behind the reef. "Where is he?" Kitt asked screaming above the howling wind.

"Where is who?" Derak asked.

"He hasn't come out!" Kitt swam to the boat.

"No Kitt, come back, what if they see you?"

Kitt swam through the sinking wood, searching for Prince Zach. She went straight to the Captain's room, hoping she would find him there. She opened the door and then their eyes met each other.

"You... you... where?" Prince Zach asked, but before anyone could say more, the roof collapsed and the young prince was pushed under water. Kitt dove under water, seeing the prince had become unconscious. She lifted him and quickly swam to the surface. After studying humans so long, she knew they couldn't breath underwater like she could.

When she reached the surface, she suddenly heard a voice. "There he is! There is the prince!"

Scared, Kitt dove under water and saw that the prince had been rescued.

"Are you alright?" Derak asked.

"I'm fine...." Kitt sighed and saw the boat drifting away.

Derak noticed what was going on. "I know where he lives...." He whispered in her ear.

Kitt grabbed his hand. "Show me!" She demanded.

The next morning, the young prince already showed himself on the balcony. "But my prince...!" The same old advisor started. "You've just been..."

"I feel just fine!" Prince Zach snapped back. "I'm not a baby any more." He leaned on the balcony. "Who was she?" He whispered.

"Who was she?" The advisor asked. "Who?"

"The girl. She must have saved me."

The advisor started to laugh. "My Prince, that was an illusion, I can assure you. We haven't seen any girl."

"Well I have!" Zach looked at the ocean. "And I want to meet her again."

At the shore, beneath the balcony, Kitt grabbed Derak and hugged him to death! "He's talking about me! He wants to meet me again! Me!"

"Let... me... go!" Derak tried to get loose. "I heard him." He managed to say after he finally got free. "But you can't show yourself at him this way. That way he'll know mermaids and mermen exist!"

"There must be a way!"

"I know a way." They suddenly heard. They looked at the sea. A boy with black hair and black eyes came out. "My friend is very powerful."

"Don't listen to him!" Derak protected Kitt. "I know him. He's befriended with that sea-witch Mika!"

"She is not a witch!" Moka growled.

"Does she have magical powers?" Kitt asked.

"What are you doing?" Derak asked.

"Yes, she has." Moka proudly smiled.

"Then she is a witch."

"Oh, you were talking about that kind of witches." Moka smiled. "She can fulfil every dream."

"Every?" Kitt asked.

"Every."

"Show me the way." Kitt demanded.

Derak gasped. "No!" He quickly followed her.

After a while, Moka, Kitt and Derak reached the cave of the sea-witch. Inside was a beautiful mermaid with a pink tail. "Are you Mika?" Kitt asked.

"That would be me, yes." Mika smiled. "I know what you want, and I can give it to you."

"Really?" Kitt asked.

"Yup, she can!" Moka nodded proudly.

"And I'll give it to you in return of your beautiful voice!"

Derak looked at Mika. "I've heard better voices." She mumbled.

Kitt gazed at him for a moment, but then smiled friendly at Mika. "Giving voices is so passé." She started. "Every sea-witch wants that."

"Really?" Mika asked and took her book 'How-to-be-an-evil-sea-witch'.

"I'll give you something much more interesting." She took her bag and dug through it. She handed it over. "It's very magical. This mirror shows the most beautiful girl in the whole sea!"

"Gimme!" Mika snatched it from her hands. "Oh, look Moka, it shows me! I'm the most prettiest girl in the whole sea!"

"What did you give?" Derak asked whispering.

"An ordinary mirror." Kitt whispered back. "So, how about it?"

Mika took a jar of pills from her shelf. "This will turn you into a human girl, with a pretty dress and so on. Made it myself!"

Kitt took it, thanked Mika (who looked back at her mirror) and Moka and swam away with Derak.

"Are you really gonna do it?" He asked.

"Sure." Kitt cheered. "You know he wanted to meet me."

"But than you can go back any more!" Derak gasped.

Kitt sighed. "What are you? Stuck in the past? This is modern science. Look at the label. 'Beware of the full moon, this will turn you back'."

The next morning, Kitt took a pill and changed into a girl with a pink dress. "Oh yuck, look at this dress!" Kitt complained. "I'm gonna ask my money back!"

Derak smiled. "Look at the label: no refunds." He laughed. "Why not try to walk a bit?"

Kitt stepped up, but splashed into the water again immediately. "Don't laugh!" She demanded.

Derak tried to squeeze away the laughter, but couldn't any more after Kitt had fallen 20 more times.

"Who is out there?" They suddenly heard.

"Hide!" Kitt whispered. "I'll meet you again with full moon! Here, take the pills!"

Derak took the pills and dove under water.

Then Kitt heard a new voice. "No, sire, don't go that way! It's very dangerous there!"

"What's so dangerous about the sea? It just saved my life!"

Kitt looked up to the rocks, when suddenly, she saw the face she had been looking for! There he was!

Prince Zach saw Kitt too and was astounded. All of a sudden, he slipped away and crashed above Kitt. "Au." He sighed.

"Don't dare to be the one who is complaining!" Kitt mumbled, noticing Zach was on top of her.

"Hehe, I'm sorry!" Zach jumped up. "But it's you, really you!"

"Yes, it's me, really me!" Kitt added sarcastically.

"I've been looking all over for you!"

"Really?" Kitt asked. She felt she became red. He was looking for her!

"Let's go to my palace and tell me all about who you really are." Zach guided Kitt away from the rocks. "And I'll give you a better dress too."

Suddenly, Mika popped out from the sea, followed by Moka. "What are you going to do?" He asked.

"Just having some fun." Mika giggled and created a huge wave.

Zach and Kitt gazed at the sea, seeing the huge wave that was about to crash above them.

Kitt gasped for air and jumped up. She saw Mika laughing with an empty bucket. Zach and Derak laughed too, and Moka rolled over the sand.

Kitt then remembered it. They decided to take a day off and spend it at the beach. It must have been a dream. "Oi, that was a weird dream." Kitt sighed, remembering they had seen the movie 'The little mermaid' last night.

"What, you are not angry?" Zach asked. "Call a doctor, Kitt is sick!" Again, the laughter.

Kitt squeezed the water out of her hair. "You like to laugh huh?" She smiled. "Then I wanna laugh too!" She walked at them, smiling evilly. Mika hid behind Moka, Derak hid behind Zach, who tried to hid behind Derak himself.

Kitt then laughed and raised her arms: "Ocean Explosion!"

The end.
